Course Overview

Learning Outcomes
Students who have successfully completed the course:
- are able to use the piano as a practice and rehearsal tool for their principal study instrument.
- have knowledge of fundamental piano technique.
- are able to perform simple piano pieces notated in both treble and bass clefs, as well as simple four-part chorale settings.
- demonstrate basic sight-reading skills, including the ability to read at least three-part textures.
- are able to provide simple accompaniment at beginner level for their principal study instrument.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course covers work in the following areas:
- Study and preparation of simple piano repertoire.
- Sight-reading of textures of at least three parts.
- Repertoire related to the student’s principal study instrument.
- Analysis and reduction of piano accompaniments.
