From 2022 to 2025, Barratt Due Institute of Music was represented in the European project AEC- Empowering Artists as Makers in Society (ARTEMIS), funded through the Creative Europe programme. Vice-Principal Ole Eirik Ree participated in a working group together with representatives from leading institutions in Estonia, France, Austria, the Netherlands and Sweden. The group worked digitally and met for a joint conference with the other participants in Vienna in January 2024.
The project focused on higher music education and aimed to strengthen musicians and artists as creative actors in society. It addressed current topics such as digitalisation, climate change, increasing cultural and social diversity and a changing labour market. ARTEMIS builds on AEC’s previous project Strengthening Music in Society (AEC-SMS) (2017–2021).
The experiences from ARTEMIS have had a great impact on Barratt Due’s work on curriculum development 2024–2026. The project has contributed to innovation and inspiration, particularly within the key areas of critical thinking, sustainability and diversity, and social responsibility – values that are central to the institute’s further development.
