An International Perspective
Barratt Due has always maintained a sharp eye outwards, towards the global music industry. Our educational programs are aligned with international standards, and our students regularly engage with leading performers from both Norway and abroad through masterclasses, projects, and guest performances.
Internationalization at Barratt Due Academy
Barratt Due Academy aims to provide education at a high international standard. Through strategic partnerships and international exchange, the academy seeks to create opportunities for professional development, strengthen its international profile, and expand its recruitment base. The goal is to position the college as an internationally relevant and attractive educational institution.
In collaboration with European music institutions, staff and faculty have the opportunity to further develop their expertise, gain inspiration for new pedagogical methods and teaching strategies, and contribute to enhancing the quality of education.
For students, international exchange forms a valuable part of their education and development as professional musicians. Through exchange-studies abroad, they learn from some of Europe’s leading pedagogues, explore new musical traditions, and build an international network.
Through international activities for both students and staff, the academy aims to promote a vibrant and sustainable study program. This helps to strengthen the academy’s position as a natural meeting place for musical talent, knowledge, and development—across national borders.
Sub-goals
To achieve this, we seek to:
- Establish and further develop strategic partnerships with selected European institutions, focusing on mutual academic and artistic benefit.
- Promote mobility for both students and staff through short-term projects, orchestra exchanges, and long-term collaborative agreements.
- Integrate international perspectives into teaching, artistic activity, and program development—so that experiences from collaboration and exchange contribute to innovation and academic quality in education.
- Raise international visibility through active participation in European networks, projects, and conferences that advance music education across borders.

Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is the EU program for education, training, youth, and sport, funded by the European Commission. The program supports mobility and collaborative projects across all levels of education.
Barratt Due actively participates in Erasmus+ through higher education mobility and has been awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) for the 2021–2027 program period. The charter outlines the institution’s commitments as a participant in the program and is intended to support quality assurance and the further development of the collaborative activities in which educational institutions engage.
Erasmus+ Key Areas

International Networks
As a member of ANMA (Association of Nordic Music Academies), Barratt Due is part of a network that brings together Nordic music education institutions to strengthen collaboration, quality, and mobility in higher music education. ANMA serves as an important forum for institutional leaders, who meet annually to discuss shared challenges and opportunities in the sector. The network also coordinates joint Nordic and Baltic projects and regularly organizes conferences on the development of higher music education.
Through NordplusMusic, part of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ education program, Barratt Due participates in extensive collaboration with over 40 music academies and universities in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The program provides financial support for teacher and student exchanges and joint projects that promote innovation in music education.
Barratt Due is also a member of AEC (Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen) – the European network for higher music education. Through AEC, the institute engages in dialogue and collaboration with partners across Europe to promote quality, cooperation, and artistic development from an international perspective. An important project for the further development of Barratt Due’s music performance study programmes has been ARTEMIS, completed in 2025. The analytical foundation and innovative processes from the project period have significantly contributed to the work on curriculum development at Barratt Due.
Barratt Due has been represented on the board of YMTE (Young Music Talents in Europe) since its inception in 2017 and has served as Secretary-General since 2023. Through YMTE, targeted efforts are made to strengthen education and collaboration for young musicians across Europe. The organization has prepared applications for significant EU funding and collaborates closely with key European actors such as AEC, EMU, EMC, and SCHEME.
