Learning Outcomes

Students who have successfully completed the course:

  • have a basic understanding of, and are able to reflect on, how to maintain their physical and mental well-being.
  • have knowledge of mental processes, techniques and methods related to performing under pressure.
  • have an awareness of the relationship between mental capacity, muscle use and occupational physiology.
  • have a conscious approach to their own practice routines and practice strategies and are able to apply these in their daily work.
  • have knowledge of, and are able to reflect on, the importance of self-care and good musician health in practice and performance settings.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The course consists of four components and covers the following areas:

  • Mental Training: Self-leadership and self-care, motivation, performance and stress management.
  • Body Awareness: Occupational physiology, body and movement, and breathing.
  • Practice: Practice routines, practice strategies and effective practice methods.
