Aural Training I

Course Overview

  • Credits: 5 ECTS credits

Learning Outcomes

Students who have successfully completed the course:

  • are able to identify fundamental musical structures both aurally and visually, and to reproduce them orally and in writing.
  • are able to sight-read, memorise and reproduce melodies and rhythms, including simple polyrhythms.
  • have a basic understanding of tonal harmony.
  • are able to apply knowledge and skills acquired in aural training to practical music-making.

  • Melody, harmony and rhythm
  • Developing an awareness of fundamental structures in tonal and atonal music
  • Sight-reading (prima vista)
  • Chord dictation
  • Aural analysis
  • Performance on the principal study instrument

Course Description
