Main instrument instrumental 3

Course Overview

  • Credits: 30 ECTS credits
  • Level (Cycle): Bachelor’s level (First Cycle)
  • Teaching Period and Duration: Teaching begins in the autumn semester and extends over two semesters
  • Admission Requirement: Admission to the Bachelor’s Programme in Music Performance
  • Prerequisites: Successful completion of the first and second years of the Bachelor’s Programme in Music Performance. A delay of up to 10 ECTS credits is permitted. HINS1200 Main Instrument 1 and HINS2200 Main Instrument 2 must have been successfully completed.
  • Location of Instruction: Oslo
  • Assessment: Portfolio assessment

Learning Outcomes

Students who have successfully completed the course:

  • work independently with technical and musical challenges and demonstrate clear goals for their studies.
  • have developed their own artistic intentions and musical ideas and demonstrate integrity in their musical expression.
  • have in-depth knowledge of the repertoire and traditions associated with their main instrument and have developed a strong sense of style.
  • demonstrate a conscious approach to communication with audiences and collaboration with others.
  • are able to apply knowledge and skills acquired in supporting subjects to their work with the main instrument.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The course includes:

  • Individual tuition with the main instrument teacher.
  • Accompaniment sessions, where relevant.
  • Active and passive participation in interpretation classes within the section.
  • Masterclasses, where relevant in collaboration with external partners.
  • Participation in concerts with solo repertoire.
  • Symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra and other performance activities as defined in the Academy’s annual plan.

For students with piano as their main instrument, the following also applies:

  • Students with piano as their main instrument are required to accompany as part of their ensemble practice.
