Course Overview

Learning Outcomes
Students who have successfully completed the course:
- have developed the ability to interpret music with stylistic awareness and differentiation.
- have developed effective practice techniques and the ability to plan both short-term and long-term work.
- are able to collaborate effectively with others.
- are able to bring a personal artistic expression to their performance.
- are able to reflect on the relationship between their principal study and supporting subjects.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course includes:
- Individual tuition with the principal study teacher.
- Masterclasses, where relevant in collaboration with external partners.
- Active and passive participation in interpretation classes within the section.
- Accompaniment sessions with the Academy’s accompanist, where relevant.
- Secondary piano studies, where relevant. See separate course description.
- Participation in concerts with solo repertoire.
- Symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra and other performance activities as defined in the Academy’s annual plan, where relevant. Students with piano as their principal study are also required to accompany as part of their ensemble practice.
- Compulsory courses delivered through seminars or equivalent formats. All students are required to complete a course in Practice and Occupational Physiology during the first or second year of study.
