Learning Outcomes
Students who have successfully completed the course:
- are able to write and read transposing parts and scores, and are able to read and use the necessary clefs.
- are able to arrange and orchestrate shorter works using a variety of techniques.
- are able to prepare a piano reduction from an orchestral score.
- are able to realise their own artistic and creative ideas through arranging for various small ensembles of different sizes.
- are able to use digital music notation software for music notation and arranging.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course covers work in the following areas:
- A basic introduction to transposition.
- A basic introduction to instrumentation and orchestration.
- A variety of arranging techniques.
- Fundamental principles for the preparation of piano reductions from orchestral scores.
- The use of digital music notation software.
