Study plan for the Master’s Programme in Music Performance
A professionally oriented, performance-focused, and practice-based education in classical music – designed to develop your unique musical talent and prepare you for a professional career.
Master’s Programme in Performance – Specialisation in Solo Instrument / Chamber Music
The Master’s Programme in Performance – Specialisation in Solo Instrument / Chamber Music – is offered in collaboration with the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH).
Students receive instruction at both institutions; however, the majority of teaching takes place at the Barratt Due Institute of Music. This includes tuition in the principal instrument, performance projects, interpretation, and chamber music.
This two-year Master’s programme provides an advanced level of artistic training designed to develop independent, versatile, and artistically mature performers. The programme comprises 120 ECTS credits and combines individual tuition, ensemble work, and independent artistic exploration.
During the course of study, each student completes a Master’s Project – an independent artistic project focused on a self-chosen topic or repertoire area. The project allows for in-depth exploration and reflection, and is based on a project proposal developed during the first year of study.
The programme is structured to help students build a comprehensive artistic portfolio throughout their studies. This portfolio may include performance recordings, repertoire lists, written reflections on artistic focus and performer identity, and promotional materials such as a CV, biography, photos, and flyers.
Overall, the Master’s Programme aims to nurture artistic individuality, deepen interpretative insight, and strengthen the professional readiness required for a successful career as a performing musician.
Specialisation in Solo Instrument
The specialisation focuses on classical music and offers the opportunity for in-depth study in a solo instrument.
During the first semester, the emphasis is placed on solo performance, while students who wish to do so may also form chamber music ensembles and receive group supervision and coaching.
