Victoria Johnson made her debut as a violinist in 1995 and has performed solo concerts at festivals such as the Bergen International Festival, Borealis Festival, and Soundwaves in London. Her passion for contemporary music has led to several commissioned works and three recordings. She is the only person in Norway to hold a performance doctorate in electric violin.
As section leader, she has overall responsibility for supporting the students’ musical development. In addition to teaching, her duties include orchestral setup and rehearsal planning, chamber music, and interpretations.
Victoria Johnson was educated in Oslo, Vienna, and London with teachers including Leif Jørgensen, Franz Samohyl, and Detlef Hahn, and holds a master’s degree in violin from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She is currently working on a brand-new commissioned work by composer Henrik Hellstenius and also performs in a duo with pianist Kristin Fyrand Mikkelsen.
In addition to teaching at the Valdres Summer Symphony and Ringerike Summer Symphony, Victoria Johnson has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Academy of Music in Gothenburg and in Malmö. She has been affiliated with the Barratt Due Institute of Music as a violin teacher at various times since 1996 and began as head of strings at Musikk på Majorstuen in 2014.
