Tove Doornbos

Teacher, Program Director, Head of Music Play, Safety Representative

“The child sings before it can speak and dances before it can walk.”

Tove Doornbos has extensive pedagogical experience and is regarded as a pioneer in music education for young children. She is passionate about ensuring that children at an early age receive the best possible music instruction, which in turn lays the foundation for further development with and through music.

Doornbos was educated at the Barratt Due Institute of Music, where she completed her music kindergarten teacher certification and instrumental pedagogy training between 1977 and 1981. In 1995, she earned a major in music at the Department of Music and Theatre at the University of Oslo, and she has also completed several courses organized by the association Music in the Beginning of Life and the Norwegian Academy of Music.

Tove Doornbos is the program director for Barratt Due’s Continuing Education in Music Pedagogy for ages 0–8. In addition, she leads the Musikklek program at Barratt Due. She is also a central figure in music pedagogy, serving as the main instructor for the continuing education program, teaching PPU students in subject didactics for children aged 0–8, and being one of several educators who teach children in Musikklek.

Doornbos has authored the book My Own Music Kindergarten, which is used by many educators in kindergartens and schools across Norway.

Tove Doornbos has worked at the Barratt Due Institute of Music since 1981.
