Torfinn Hoffart

Torfinn knows almost everything about the workings of the institute and is involved in many of its activities.

Torfinn Hoffart is the Head of Education at the Young Talents programme, teaches cello students in the PPU program, and instructs many of the cello students at the institute. He is also responsible for the sale of musical services to external clients.

Hoffart was educated at the Østlandet Music Conservatory and completed a major in music at the University of Oslo / Norwegian Academy of Music. He has performed as a cellist in several professional orchestras.

Planning and coordination of Young Talents’ activities are Hoffart’s responsibility. He works closely with the head of U19, Liv Andersen, and the various section leaders to optimize activities within each section.

In terms of developing new methods for effective and high-quality cello teaching, Hoffart plays a central role, including as the founder of Absolutt Cello in 2007. Absolutt Cello has evolved from being a group program for beginners to a comprehensive concept covering students from beginners up to master’s level. Over the past 18 years, it has undertaken annual tours to cities including Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. Hoffart also gives annual masterclasses for cello students at MCW (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien) and at the Prague Conservatory of Music in the Czech Republic.
