Terje Midtgård is alternating solo trombonist in the Oslo Philharmonic in addition to being an associate professor at Barratt Due Institute of Music. He also has experience from several of the professional military bands in Norway.
Terje Midtgård began his studies with Arne Martin Grimsby and Arild Jensen and continued at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Ingemar Roos as his teacher. He later undertook various periods of study in London, Chicago, and New York with, among others, Joe Alessi, Jay Friedman, and Per Brevig.
In 1988 he was appointed solo trombonist in the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and since 1990 he has been alternating solo trombonist in the Oslo Philharmonic. Here he has been a soloist in Lars Erik Larsson’s Concertino. He has also been a soloist together with Aline Nistad in Lasse Thoresen’s Luothi Boade for two trombones and orchestra, both in Oslo, Vienna, Athens, and Paris with the Oslo Philharmonic.
In addition to teaching regularly at Barratt Due, Midtgård has taught at the University of Oslo and, at times, at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
