Sun-Young Ju-Friedensburg is an experienced pianist, chamber musician, and accompanist. She has established herself as one of Norway’s leading piano teachers, and several of her students have won awards in national competitions.
Ju-Friedensburg holds a master’s degree in performance and chamber music, as well as two soloist diplomas. She is originally from South Korea and studied at the music academies in Detmold, Hannover, Rotterdam, and Cologne. She has studied with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, Roland Pröll, Barbara Grajewska, and Ulla Graf, and has received further guidance from Jacob Lateiner, Sergio Perticaroli, Wolfgang Manz, Lew Naumow, Konrad Elser, Helmut Deutsch, Günter Ludwig, Jens Harald Bratlie, and Håvard Gimse.
A prizewinner in national competitions, Ju-Friedensburg made her debut in 1987 in Busan, South Korea, and later in 1997 at the Philharmonie in Rotterdam. Since then, she has performed regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in South Korea, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Norway.
Sun-Young Ju-Friedensburg settled in Norway in 2001 after working as an assistant professor in piano performance and accompaniment at the Cologne University of Music. She has been affiliated with Barratt Due Music Institute as a teacher since 2011 and teaches at both Unge Talenter and Musikk på Majorstuen.
