Rune Brodahl

French HornAcademy, Musikk på Majorstuen, Young Talents

As a horn player, Brodahl enjoys exploring and playing in various musical genres such as contemporary music, rhythmic music, jazz, and big band.

Rune Brodahl is particularly passionate about the french horn and has been an initiator and participant in numerous festivals, horn days, and other events dedicated to the instrument.

He studied horn at the Østlandets Musikkonservatorium with Kjell Erik Arnesen as his principal teacher and has taken lessons and attended masterclasses with, among others, Hugh Seenan, Michael Thompson, Vitalij Buyanovskij, and Ib Lanzky-Otto. He is currently the principal hornist at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet and in the Nordic Brass Ensemble.

Brodahl has a special passion for chamber music and actively participates in many chamber music projects both in Norway and abroad. In recent years, he has been particularly involved with Ensemble Moderen in Frankfurt, focusing on contemporary music.

He has contributed to numerous recordings, ranging from large orchestras and chamber orchestras to chamber music and solo albums. Notably, he released Out of the Pit with his brother Frank Brodahl and recently released a solo horn album with hornist Saar Berger. Sonorous received glowing reviews, including praise in Das Orchester.

Brodahl was appointed french horn teacher at Barratt Due Institute of Music in 2019, where he is affiliated with both the Academy and the Young Talents programme.
