Ida Bryhn is an award-winning violist and the principal violist of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. She has toured worldwide, performing on most of the major concert stages in Europe and the USA, as well as at numerous festivals. In addition, she is a recognized pedagogue and, alongside her position at Barratt Due, is a professor at the Royal College of Music in London.

Ida Bryhn plays on a viola built by the G. & F. Grancino brothers in Milan around 1665, on loan from Dextra Musica. She received her first music training at Barratt Due Institute of Music under Georg Horvati and Alf Richard Kraggerud, before switching from violin to viola under Soon-Mi Chung Barratt-Due. She then studied for three years at Edsbergs Music Institute in Stockholm before traveling as a Fulbright scholar to the New England Conservatory in Boston, where she studied with Kim Kashkashian. In 2008, Bryhn completed her diploma studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Lars Anders Tomter as her teacher. During her final recital, she performed as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic under Jukka-Pekka Saraste. That same year, she was awarded the Shell Prize, and she has since toured extensively, performing on major concert stages in Europe and the USA.

As principal violist, Ida Bryhn has guested with the Stockholm Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Camerata Nordica, and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. From 2006 to 2009, she was employed by the Oslo Philharmonic and has participated in the Norwegian Concert Institute’s two-year INTRO-classical program. She has performed at festivals including Verbier, Ravinia (near Chicago), IMS Prussia Cove, Risør Chamber Music Festival, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Ultima Festival, and the Bergen International Festival. She has also appeared with The Razumovsky Ensemble in London, Diamant Ensemble in Copenhagen, and the London Philharmonic’s chamber music series at Wigmore Hall.

Bryhn has given masterclasses at the Royal College of Music in London, the University of Gothenburg, Hanoi State Academy, summer courses at Voksenåsen, and the Valdres Summer Symphony. She is affiliated with Barratt Due Music Institute as a college lecturer and teaches in both the Higher Education program and the Young Talents program.
