In the theory subject, Hermod teaches music theory, ear training, music history, and composition. In lessons for piano as a secondary instrument, students learn basic piano technique, classical piano, and figured bass playing. The subject is integrated with theory and choir, and students practice ear training, improvisation, and analysis during lessons. Often, students play together in bands using multiple instruments such as bass and drums.
Hermod holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music and Universität der Künste in Berlin. After completing his master’s in 2023, he undertook a residency with Prof. Marco Stroppa in Paris. He also has a background in classical and jazz piano, studying with teachers including Einar H. Smedbye, Marina Pliassova, and Mathias Johanson.
Hermod’s compositions have been performed nationally and internationally at festivals such as the Bergen International Festival, Ultima, Ung Nordisk Musikk, and Les Bestivités. His portfolio includes instrumental music for solo, chamber, and orchestral ensembles performed by groups such as the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Sisu, and Microtub. He has also created electronic music, music for video, and interdisciplinary works, including experimental music theatre and performance.
