Erlend Skei is a freelance double bassist and educator. He teaches double bass at Barratt Due’s “Musikk på Majorstuen” and the Music school. Skei is also the founder and leader of the Norwegian Double Bass Club.

He holds a master’s degree in performance and music education from NTNU, where he studied under Stanislaw Kulhawczuk, and also spent a year studying with Dan Styffe at the Norwegian Academy of Music. As part of his master’s, he specialized in tango under Steinar Haugerud and traveled to Buenos Aires for study. He has participated in Ensemble Akademie Freiburg, studying early music with Dane Roberts.

As a freelancer, Skei regularly performs with the Oslo Philharmonic, Kringkastingsorkesteret, Det Norske Kammerorkester, and TrondheimSolistene, and was a permanent member of the Opera in Kristiansund from 2003–2010. He teaches double bass at Nittedal String Orchestra (also leading the junior orchestra), and has taught at Trondheim municipal music and culture school, Kristiansund Music School, and the music program at Atlanten High School. He actively recruits young double bass players and leads initiatives through the Norwegian Double Bass Club. He also teaches at Valdres Summer Symphony and Ringerike Summer Symphony.
