Cathrine Birgitte Skar is trained as an oboist, instrumental pedagogue, and music therapist at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She has been a permanent teacher at the Barratt Due Institute of Music since 2022, and has been associated with the institute as a substitute teacher since 2013.
Cathrine began in Music Kindergarten at the age of four, an experience that sparked an early passion for music, motivated her development, and inspired a deep commitment to providing the same opportunities for other children. She particularly enjoys leading groups of children and adults together, as the musical community creates a unique space for joy, growth, and development.
Her pedagogical work spans a wide range of settings. She has taught at Oslo Kulturskole and Bærum Kulturskole, and in 2003 established her own practice, “Music from Life’s Beginning.” She has been involved in projects such as “Music in Asylum Centers,” “Music for Children with Diverse Abilities,” and the long-running project “Mig-Mus./Music for Children and Families with Minority Backgrounds.” In addition, she directed a school choir for fourteen years.
